Artist’s Inspiration

This body of work was inspired by the landscapes of Huron and Bruce County, particularly the Bayfield area along the shores of Lake Huron and the Bayfield River. Known for its dramatic skies, golden fields, and the ever-changing moods of the river and lake, this region offers a rich palette of contrasts — especially in the shoulder seasons.

Drawn to the emotional ambiguity of late autumn and early winter — those in-between days when the sun still glows but no longer warms, and when the land seems to hold its breath before the snow settles in. Long walks along Bayfield’s wooded trails, windswept beaches, and drives down quiet rural roads offered moments of stillness and reflection that became the heart of this collection.

Watercolor, with its fluid unpredictability, became the perfect medium to express this — allowing colors to bleed, blend, and resist, just as the seasons do. The result is a visual meditation on impermanence, rooted in a specific place but resonant with universal feeling.

This growing collection is dedicated to the transitional beauty of Southwestern Ontario, and a reminder that even in the coldest moments, there is light — and in stillness, there is story.
